Organizers are expecting 20,000 to 25,000 people to attend Summerfair this weekend at Coney Island. It's the 44th year for the event, which starts at 2 this afternoon. More than 300 artists will be displaying and selling their work. 2011 Fair Chair Bob Hinman says there will also be musical artists and other performers:

"From bands, barbershop quartets to hula dancers, cloggers and breakdancers and including some of our youth arts entertainers, which includes some small children doing violins. They're quite amazing."

Hinman says Summerfair has grown a lot since its early days:

"It started in 1967 in Mt. Adams as a way to help Playhouse in the Park finish up one of their theaters. So it's grown from a street fair to one of the finest arts fairs in the United States."

Summerfair will feature everything from phototgraphy, painting, woodworking and ceramics to fibers. leather, jewelry and 2D/3D mixed-media art. (And there's what's being billed as "gourmet arts" to eat and drink.)

New this year is the Little Black Dress Event tonight showcasing dresses from select Cincinnati boutiques and contemporary jewelry from Summerfair artists.

Summerfair also features a "Youth Arts Rocks!" area. It's a special section for kids with hands-on activities and jugglers, magicians and puppets.

Tickets can be purchased for $10. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
