Razer Ferox Mobile Gaming and Music Speakers Review | Back2Gaming ...

Razer Ferox

We?ve had a couple of Razer?s headset come by our test lab in the past and we?ve always walked away happy with their audio products. Today we have another audio offering from Razer and it ain?t no headset; we have the Ferox portable gaming and music speaker set. A couple of mini-speakers that promises premium sound at a small package. Let?s see if the Ferox has the big bite from its small package. Let?s make this showy!

Razer has been delivering solid-performance audio equipment in the market for a good while now especially their headset lines. We?ve reviewed the Banshee, Carcharias and Orca from them and all have received positive marks in our books. Though in the Banshee?s case, its size was the only complaint we had about it. And that?s what today?s review is about: size. The Ferox mini-speakers are geared towards gamers and audioheads on the go and those that want that just want to bring some nice powerful sounds with them wherever they go. The Ferox is aimed to target any and everyone who wants mobile speakers and want good quality. It?s a pretty good market but with only a few offerings, some even only intended for certain products. Let?s get it on with the review!

Here?s a quick spec on the Ferox:

  • Frequency Response: 150Hz-20KHz ? that 150hz low range might be a bit of a turnoff for bassheads but we?ll in testing
  • Drivers: 30mm neodymium magnets
  • Up to 12 hours playback time ? if it reaches that long, I?m a very happy man
  • LED battery status indicator
  • Battery voltage/capacity: 470mAh
  • 3.5mm audio jack & USB
  • Loudspeaker Output: 2 x 3W
  • Carrying case included
  • Approximate size: 70 mm (length) x 70mm (width) x 53 ? 64 mm (height) ? your index finger is taller than the unit?

CLOSER LOOK ? PACKAGING

Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers ? Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers

The Ferox comes in classic Razer packaging with clear plastic upfront revealing the sweet, delicious Ferox inside. The box itself is pretty small and might not be that stand-out in store shelves but the large text that says FEROX on the lower right makes up for this.

The sides of the box showcases the Ferox?s audio capabilities with one side showing the details of the speaker chamber and on the opposite is the audio direction.

The back of the box shows us the Ferox?s features with image thumbnails of major features in the left side for further show.

The bottom has the feature list translated into my favorite languages namely: Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean and Japanese. The top flap has a nice shot of the unit.

Inside we have the Ferox mini-speakers, a USB/3.5mm-to-miniUSB cable, a pouch and what I like to call the Razerdocs which include a manual, a certificate of authenticity, a proof of compliance and a sheet of Razer tri-snake stickers.

Opening this baby up, we have the Ferox protected in a clear plastic packing that clips to the Ferox.

So here we have the star of today?s review: the Razer Ferox. Doesn?t look like it but these baby are barely the size of those snack-sized 125g cups of yogurt. Pressing down on the top of the Ferox will either close/open the chamber. The opening itself is a rather cute one because it slowly rises to max height. The top cover is mainly metal with a gloss scheme with a metal mesh protecting the inner components. The bottom part consists of a mainly matte body with gloss rings for accentuation. The unit is in all black with the Razer triple-snake logo on the top.

Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers

Can?t help but think of FlatTops chocolates whenever I see the Ferox. Anyways, flipping the speakers we get to see a rubber ring beneath for improved traction and reduced slippage. The LED lighting ring is visible in this angle, too.

The cables included in the Ferox are around a foot long and braided. They have sliding cable guides that reduce the split between jacks on either ends of the cable. And something we always like to see on our cables, gold plated connectors. Clean signals, yo.

Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers

The cables that connect to the speakers are tagged with L and R to denote which will output that distinct channel.

Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers ? Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers

Opening up the Ferox and plugging in the mini-USBs is basically the Ferox?s on button. The blue LED rings will light up and blink during operation. There is no option to switch LED colors, but the Ferox has red LEDs that only show when the unit is nearly drained.

Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers ? Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers

The included pouch has a neat little compartment for the cable and the bottom part has a partition for the two speakers. The entire package is now ready to go with you in such small space. Its around the same size as a sunglass case.

UPDATE: Including a size comparison shot

PERFORMANCE

We test out the Ferox using the Lexicon Omega Pro in a controlled scenario to fully determine the capabilities of the unit. Since this is a portable device, we also be using a mobile device to test out the unit?s sound quality. As with all our audio review, we try our best to be as fair as possible in grading our observation and for this we look for the common points people look for in sound quality: clarity, power and range.

Listening and Music

Indoor Testing ? Lexicon Omega

For this round we plug the Ferox into our Lexicon Omega Pro audio device and see how it handles. Reverting to my ever so random music library, we choose a couple of upbeat tracks for the active gamer.

  • Califa Thugs ? Something To Bump To [CD]

- Title says it all; its chill music. This track has a laid-back mild beat with smooth flowing lyrics accompanying it. The Ferox rendered the vocals and rhythm clearly. The Omega might?ve been a bit too much for the Ferox because cranking up the volume really messed up the sound. We scale down the gain to find a good balance of bass and treble. The Ferox has a distinct sounding bass, with a bit of wetness to it. Most people will overlook this for the sheer power of the Ferox but discerning audiophiles will probably freak about it.

  • Dream Evil ? Chasing the Dragon [MP3 320kbps 44khz Stereo]

- One of my favorite tracks to test with because of its colorful soundscape and up-tempo beat. Firing up the Ferox, we get a crisp barrage of riffs in the song?s intro. Again we see the highly colorful mids and high capabilities of the Ferox but with that resonant bass compensating for the lack of the actual gut-busting thump we like to hear.

  • SNSD ? Mr. Taxi [FLAC 1366kbps 44hz]

- SNSD?s release and I?m particularly sure I?ve tested a device with this already. I?m including this here for the tinny assortment of auto-tuning that tends to screw up the snares and bass in some setups I?ve used. Mr. Taxi has a catchy saw melody with the girls? voices riding to a nice, heavy beat. The beat itself is well rendered, with that distinct Ferox bass. One thing about this song is it plays around with 3D and panning and the Ferox?s 360 degree output profile complements that very well.

Outdoor Testing ? Sony Walkman NW-E005

Was lucky enough to be invited to a small backyard party and this was where I tested the Ferox with some good party music. All files were converted from 320kbps MP3 to ATRAC3 256kbps. All sound improvement features were turned off and EQ was set to default.

- Lots of saws and synths in this track with high-pitched vocals coupled with an up-tempo beat. Gotta love the girls of 2NE1 for mixing it up and trying new stuff with this track. Ok, first-off I gotta say the looks on the people over at the party when they heard the Ferox was like WOW. They can?t believe how powerful and clear those little speakers are and they kept asking how much and where they can get a pair. Its that good, people. Getting back, the powerful sawtooth synths in this track were nicely put out by the Ferox. Maxing out the volume on the Walkman, we?re still getting clean bass with minimal distortion and muddiness.

  • Oriental St8 ? Dear My Lady

- This is a nice little techno-disco track from the DJMAX Technika OST CD. It?s got a nice solid keyboard melody that tends to get tinny on cheap-ass speakers. The Ferox did great portraying this song with a nice deep feel to it. The high note keys were pretty standout and didn?t cause the speakers to hiss or break. Still gotta love the WTF look on the party people?s faces when they glance on the little Ferox.

  • Sistar ? Push Push (LIVE)

- Another upbeat song with a solid beat. For a Kpop track, this one has a more natural feel to it without the typical synths and electronica. We got sax, congas and trumpets lining the melody with a good drum beat. Sistar is a great live performance group and Hyorin?s voice is just superior in this track live. The Ferox renders that great performance like crystal. Nuff said.

Game Testing ? PSP (Rockband Unplugged)

Rockband Unplugged

So I was particularly interested in how the Ferox performed in handhelds so I plugged it in a PSP-Go (stop booing) and loaded up Rockband Unplugged. Cranking up to max volume and placing the Ferox around 3 feet away from me as I layback on my officer chair, I went track after track. So as for game performance, if you ever wanted to rockout on your PSP or DS but can only do it with earbuds or headphones or your PC speakers, then this is really a step up. The PSP itself isn?t really a stand-out audio source but Sony will be Sony and their output quality is still one their proud of, even on the PSP. Taking that into consideration, the Ferox really amplifies the game?s classic soundtrack without being too distorted by device limitations. Basically I?ve already expected it to perform well from the music testing since we used a Sony device.

BATTERY LIFE

To test out the battery life, we charged the Ferox to full (overnight) via USB then paired it with the Sony NW-E005 and Sony Ericsson W900i, swapping out till the Ferox?s battery goes dead. Playing at max volume with a couple minutes of pauses, we were able to get over 11 to nearly the advertised 12 hours on a fully charged Ferox. We?re really impressed by Razer, very nice choice of batteries. That lengthy drain time will surely entertain anyone for quite a while.

CONCLUSION

Razer Ferox Portable Gaming and Music Speakers

You see that? Look at that. I want that.

I?ll just be repeating myself all over again in this part but I gotta wrap this up. Starting things off, you have a really solidly made device which gives it a feel of importance and its weight adds to that statement. The Ferox?s nicely done touch-to-open chambers add to that cute factor and the glowing blue LEDs complement the subtle look of the speakers.

As for sound quality, its just superb. If you have those nice 2.1 desktop setups, power is pretty much up there. If the Ferox had subwoofers, this is the 2.1 setup to beat. And the fact that it comes in at such a small package, is what sets it apart.

So is it worth it? Coming in at US$60.00 and around Php2,800 at some local suppliers, it goes head to head against the X-Mini that targets the same market. Anyone who?ve used those burger speakers will most likely testify how awful they sound and those are the people that might shy away from devices like the Ferox, but Razer has managed to outdo that competition and smoke them by a mile. We have no problem recommending the Ferox for those that want mobile or portable speakers. The Ferox is the top dog in the portable mini speakers arena right now? and they?re smaller than a roll of duct tape.

If that ain?t reason enough? then if you?re a chick? it?s cute. If you?re a dude, it?s minimalistic yet aggressive.

The quantum world allows you to answer questions correctly when you don't even have all the information you should need

No-one likes a know-it-all but we expect to be able to catch them out: someone who acts like they know everything but doesn't can always be tripped up with a well-chosen question. Can't they? Not so. New research in quantum physics has shown that a quantum know-it-all could lack information about a subject as a whole, yet answer almost perfectly any question about the subject's parts. The work is published in Physical Review Letters.

"This is something conceptually very weird," says Stephanie Wehner of the Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore, who derived the theoretical result with PhD student Thomas Vidick at the University of California, Berkeley, United States. It's a new phenomenon to add to the list of philosophical conundrums in quantum physics as strange as the quantum superposition or the quantum uncertainty principle. But the work also has practical motivation: understanding how information behaves in the quantum context is important in emerging technologies such as quantum cryptography and quantum computation.

To frame the problem, consider the example of someone answering questions about a book they have only half-read. If someone has incomplete knowledge about a book as a whole, one expects to be able to identify the source of their ignorance somewhere in the book's pages.

Wehner and Vidick simplify the situation to a book with two pages. They invite the usual quantum players, Alice and Bob, to collaborate. Alice reads the book and is allowed to give Bob one page's worth of information from it.

If Bob only has classical information, it is always possible to work out what he doesn't know. "We show that classically things are, well, sane" says Wehner. In other words, Bob's ignorance can be exposed. Imagine that Bob is a student trying to cheat in an exam, and the notes from Alice cover half the course. An examiner, having secretly inspected Bob's crib notes, could set questions that Bob couldn't answer.

The craziness comes if Bob gets one page's worth of quantum information from Alice. In this case, the researchers show, there is no-way to pinpoint what information Bob is missing. Challenge Bob, and he can guess either page of the book almost perfectly. An examiner could not expose Bob's ignorance even having seen his notes as long as the questions cover no more than half the course the total amount of information Bob can recount cannot exceed the size of his notes.

It is an unexpected discovery. Researchers had been trying to prove that quantum ignorance would follow classical intuition and be traceable to ignorance of details, and finding that it isn't raises new questions. "We have observed this effect but we don't really understand where it comes from," says Wehner. An intuitive understanding may be forever out of reach, just as other effects in quantum theory defy mechanistic description. However, Wehner and Vidick have begun to design experimental tests and are already formulating a range of ways to explore this strange new frontier. In this work, they devised a means of encoding the quantum information from two pages into one that gave Bob, the quantum know-it-all, the ability to recount all but one bit of the information on either page (the last bit Bob would have to guess). They plan to test whether other encodings would be equally good.

Spain draw France in 2014 World Cup qualifiers (AFP)

RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) ? Fortune shone on England at the 2014 World Cup draw as defending champions Spain and 1998 winners France were locked on a collision course in the race for the Brazil finals.

England, one of the top seeds, on Saturday were drawn with Euro 2012 rivals Montenegro, Ukraine, Poland and makeweights Moldova and San Marino in Group H.

If England slip up then they will have to go through the playoffs for one of four remaining berths, assuming they at least finish as one of the best eight runners-up in the nine groups across the continent.

"I am confident," said England manager Fabio Capello, who will be stepping down after Euro 2012.

"But it's not going to be easy. Ukraine and Montenegro are going to be tough."

While the 1966 champions had little cause to feel hard done by it was a different story for France, drawn in the same group as world and European champions Spain.

Belarus, Georgia and Finland make up their Group I.

"Three years is a long time and 2014 isn't now. Spain are currently the best team there is. But we don't know if that will be the case in two or three years time," said France coach Laurent Blanc.

Brazil are pre-qualified as hosts, but for hundreds of millions of fans from around the world watching the draw unfold there was tension as they waited on their teams' fate.

Scotland were drawn with a Wales side whose recent slide down the rankings has them lower in the standings than the Faroe Islands. The pair will face off with Croatia, Serbia, Belgium and Macedonia in Group A.

Also in Europe, 2010 runners-up Holland will face Turkey -- coached by Dutchman Guus Hiddink -- Hungary, Romania, Estonia and Andorra in Group D.

Four-time champions Italy are in Group B with difficult matches against Denmark and the Czech Republic standing in their way with Bulgaria, Armenia and Malta also in the section.

Three-time winners Germany lead Group C with tricky ties with Sweden and Ireland in prospect while Austria, Faroe Islands and Kazakhstan make up the pool.

"The players love playing in Ireland - it's always a great atmosphere. On paper they are behind Sweden but we see them as being as strong as Sweden," said Germany assistant coach Oliver Bierhoff.

Group E features Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland, Albania, Cyprus and Iceland while Group F pits Portugal against 2018 hosts Russia, Israel, Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.

Former European champions Greece are in Group G with Slovakia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Lithuania, Latvia and Leichtenstein.

Saturday's draw for the 20th World Cup featured a total of 166 nations and was made 91 years to the day since the first final saw Uruguay emerge as champions.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter opened the occasion at Rio's Marina, a stone's throw from the Copacabana beach, by noting that "Brazil holds a special place in the world of football".

"We are happy to be back in Brazil because it is now 61 years since the last World Cup was organised in Brazil. We look forward to an exciting World Cup."

Before the main draw, the fifth-placed team in South American qualifying was drawn to play the fifth-placed team in Asian qualifying for a finals place.

The the leading nation from Oceania was selected to meet the fourth-ranked country from the North, Central American and Caribbean (CONCACAF) zone.

CONCACAF gets three guaranteed places plus one play-off berth, while Oceania's 11 countries are fighting for just a single place via that same play-off.

Africa will have five qualifiers and in the draw West African giants Ghana and Ivory Coast were handed tough tasks.

Ghana, quarter-final losers on penalties to Uruguay in 2010, will face formidable Zambia and Sudan plus minnows Lesotho or Burundi in one of 10 second-round groups.

Ivory Coast, seeking a third consecutive finals appearance, drew the second seed no one wanted -- Morocco -- in a mini-league completed by Gambia and Chad or Tanzania

In Asia, reigning Asian champions Japan and North Korea came out together.

Australia's bid to qualify for a third successive finals begins in Group D, where they will take on Saudi Arabia, Oman and Thailand.

"I'm massive fan of all three countries and I respect them a lot," said Australian star Tim Cahill.

South Korea, who were semi-finalists on home soil in 2002, are in Group B alongside Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon.

China are in Group A with Jordan, Iraq and Singapore.

In Group E, Iran, bidding to qualify for a fourth finals, may be favourites, but Bahrain, who lost out to New Zealand in a playoff for the 2010 competition, and 2022 hosts Qatar will be keen to make an impression.

The top two nations from each of the five groups go through before the 10 surviving teams split into two groups, with the leading two nations in each progressing to the finals.

Japan banks, brokerages grapple with weak home market (Reuters)

TOKYO (Reuters) ? Lacklustre lending activity in Japan's earthquake-ravaged economy and a shrinking retail investment business capped earnings of the country's top banks and brokerages in the fiscal first quarter, raising pressure on them to take more risks and find revenue sources overseas.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (8306.T), Mizuho Financial Group (8411.T) and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (8316.T), the top three banks, are facing anemic loan demand in Japan where companies are paying down debt instead of expanding.

Bank lending in Japan, which makes up the bulk of their revenues, fell for the 19th straight month in June from a year earlier, with the expected boost to loan demand from the March 11 disaster not materializing yet.

"Lending at home is weak and prospects are not bright. The point is how much the banks can offset that by increasing overseas loans," said Chikako Horiuchi, an analyst at Fitch Ratings in Tokyo.

Investment banking and brokerage units were a drag on the banks, hurt by weak underwriting business.

Top brokerage Nomura Holdings (8604.T) fared better, as its quarterly profit topped forecasts but domestic rival Daiwa Securities (8601.T) struggled, posting its fifth quarterly loss out of six.

MUFG BOOKS MORGAN STANLEY GAIN

MUFG posted a 500.6 billion yen ($6.4 billion) net profit in the quarter after booking a 290.6 billion yen gain from conversion of its preferred shares in Morgan Stanley (MS.N) into common stock which raised its stake in the Wall Street firm to 22 percent.

The profit tripled from 166.4 billion yen a year earlier and was above the 400 billion yen estimated by Citigroup Global Markets Japan.

Mizuho's profit slumped 36 percent to 96.4 billion for the quarter, slightly below the 100 billion yen estimated by Citigroup. Sumitomo Mitsui's profit fell 2.4 percent to 206.6 billion yen, but above the 100 billion yen estimated by Citigroup.

Loans taken to help northeastern Japan rebuild after the devastating March quake are likely to provide a modest boost.

"If there will be loan demand growth driven by capital expenditure, it is likely to come in the third quarter or later. And even then, I don't expect to see an explosive growth, rather I'm expecting to see a sign of recovery," said Takehito Yamanaka, analyst at MF Global FXA Securities in Tokyo.

The banks are stepping up their overseas presence not only to combat weak loan take-up at home but also to benefit from a strengthening currency that is driving much of corporate Japan to shop overseas.

The dollar hit a four-month low of 77.48 yen on Friday morning, prompting Japan to escalate its warning to markets against testing the yen's upside further.

Mizuho is set to seal a deal soon to buy as much as 20 percent of Vietnam's Vietcombank (VCB.HM), sources have said, while MUFG last month began talks with CIMB (CIMB.KL) to take a bigger stake in the Malaysian lender.

Sumitomo Mitsui teamed up with Brazil's BTG Pactual (BTG.UL) in April to offer project finance and advisory services in the Latin American nation.

BROKERS GO OFFSHORE

Brokerages Nomura and Daiwa are also ramping up efforts overseas, but with markets jittery and companies wary of inking deals amid global economic uncertainty, succeeding abroad may become more difficult.

In a sign of the headwinds they face, Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N), the biggest U.S. investment bank, earlier this month posted earnings that were well below market expectations.

"Harsh market conditions persist," Nomura's chief financial officer, Junko Nakagawa said at a press briefing in Tokyo. "We see an improvement in the second half of the year, but a lot of uncertainty remains," she added.

In the quarter ended June 30, Nomura, which is expanding in Asia, Europe and the United States after buying part of Lehman Brothers in 2008, posted a 17.7 billion yen ($228 million) net profit compared with a profit of 2.3 billion yen a year earlier.

The result was better than the mean forecast of a 13.7 billion yen profit from three analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Pretax profit in asset management rose 86 percent and losses in its wholesale business shrank. Investment bank losses however rose to 20.6 billion from 14.8 billion yen.

"Its wholesale sector has been performing well, despite the difficulties it is facing, with business progressing in the U.S. market," said SMBC Friend Securities Investment Sector strategist Yasushi Noguchi. "It has managed to create a balance between cutting costs and investment in the correct places."

Daiwa, which is expanding investment banking in a competitive Asian market, posted a 9.4 billion yen net loss, compared with a loss of 1.2 billion yen a year earlier.

The result was worse than the average forecast of a 2.1 billion yen loss from two analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Daiwa cut its global investment banking recurring loss by a third to 5.8 billion yen, but that better performance was offset by a 70 percent dip in earnings from its retail business at home.

"Daiwa is at a stage where it still has to go through restructuring," said SMBC Friend Securities' Noguchi.

Labor COSTS WEIGHING

At both securities companies, the cost of hiring bankers overseas has also weighed on profitability and, analysts say, will need to be controlled to prevent further earnings erosion.

In the last quarter Nomura said general expenses rose by 13 percent from the previous quarter with staff costs nudging up 7.3 percent. At Daiwa non-interest expenses fell 0.7 percent but remained 6.8 percent higher that at the same time in 2010.

Both Nomura and Daiwa pledged to rein in costs. When Nomura bought the Lehman parts, it offered many of its new employees guaranteed bonuses to keep them from leaving. That splurge kept the Lehman talent in place but thrust up expenses.

Jesse Bhattal, president and CEO of the wholesale business, told Reuters in an interview that Nomura plans to cut costs in the wholesale division by $400 million this business year, in both personnel and operating expenses with implementation starting in the next few weeks.

Nomura in June cut cash bonuses paid to directors and executives for the previous business year by as much as 95 percent after lackluster profits.

Daiwa's chief financial officer, Nobuyuki Iwamoto, on Friday promised to trim outlays by 100 billion yen "over the mid-term."

Real Estate Marketing ? Dominating Your Region Following Three ...

Following is a viable real estate marketing checklist for those medium to considerable sized brokerages that may want to strengthen business by means of significantly improving its brand visibility and also getting many more realtors to its group. At the center of this following process is the introduction of a company standard ?Agent Lead Generation Plan.?

The actual belief here is that as the brokerage works to deliver (plus mandate) the lead generation campaigns of the organization?s Realtors, it will simultaneously prove its reputation as the most ubiquitous, technically revolutionary business in its locale. And so listed here are a few simple steps to help you get started out.

To start with, establish a vast multi-author, WordPress based blog site designed to work as the foundation of the agency?s overall real estate marketing strategy. This website might double as a regional internet based ?newspaper? of sorts, and will most likely have eventual importance as such.

Key pieces of this site will incorporate a video gallery page, IDX integration, an evolving Google map and also personal real estate agent pages that stream agent produced content and show unique lead capture offers per each real estate agent.

Secondly, set up agency social networking profiles. The real estate marketing plan will include a Facebook page, Twitter profile, and also Youtube profile. Preset them each to instantly connect to the primary site, with unique articles being syndicated and shared between all parts. (This is quickly done by using WordPress for your website system).

Any kind of content posted to the primary site will also end up on both Facebook plus Twitter, together with urls drawing visitors directly back to the primary site. Any kind of videos submitted to Youtube is going to show up on the video gallery webpage, and whenever appropriately titled and also tagged in Youtube, they will likely offer a steady stream of site traffic for years to come.

As a final point, establish a content real estate marketing creation assignment for each individual agent on the squad. Turn it into a company mandate that every person must contribute to the website on a regular basis. This consists of ownership, management, administrative office staff, and all of the agent associates. Designate each individual group member some sort of themed piece of content that they can be accountable for on a weekly basis.

Figure an easy method to discipline those who won?t comply, as well as compensate folks that do. As an illustration, you may charge each individual agent that fails to contribute article content a fifty dollar charge that will be utilized to work with an independent writer to generate some content alternatively.

By applying these three simple measures, your brokerage will likely be definitely on its way to taking over the web-based marketplace. However, there?s way more to employ if you ever intend on thoroughly improving your lead generation efforts. Get the next set of ideas and also techniques for your business at Retechulous.com.

You may all be wondering where the ever-loving Trollboy has been. ?I could have been anywhere for the last week. ?Area 51, a lovely place to visit and its very cave-like atmosphere always makes me feel right at home. ?Ry?leh, very nice this time of year and the host has the best snacks EVAH! ?Or was I visiting The?Illuminati?headqu?, oh I?m sorry, I was just informed I can?t talk about that. ?Those would be really awesome things to write about, but instead I was sent on a secret mission to escort Melvin to the most?terrifying?of all places. ?A place so horrible, so evil, so worse than Mos Eisley.

A wretched hive of scum and villainy.

That place is?

The 2011 San Diego International Comic Con! ?Yep! ?That?s right, Comic Con! ?The mecca for all things pop culture related. ?My mission to guard Melvin started way back in?November?when tickets were released the first time. ?The servers crashed, but no one said anything to the thousands of people attempting to get tickets. ?I waited on line for four hours, no tickets. ?Then we tried for tickets again, rinse/repeat last go, 2 hours, no tickets. ?Then in February I waited on line for six hours. ?Tickets were purchased, but the coveted ?4 Day Pass? was sold out so I had to buy daily passes. ?I got Thursday, Friday, and Sunday passes. ?Saturday was at that point deemed a day of rest by myself and the all powerful Internet Gods! (insert lightning sound effect here)

Fast forward to Wednesday July 20, 2011. ?Friends have arrived, Con gear has been packed, car readied for trip across the desert, and then the fatal word that launched this journey was said. ??Engage?. ?And with that, we were off. ?New adventures awaited my companions and I as we babbled about all the neat things we were about to do and see.

We got to San Diego at about midnight, got settled in our rental house, then went shopping for food. ?When all was said and done, we were sleeping by about 3 AM, and up about 6 AM. ?Melvin did not want to leave without some coffee, so we brewed some up for everyone and then we were ready to rock this Con!

We arrived and got in our first of many?insanely long lines of the weekend. ?(Comic Con survival tip: Wear awesomely comfortable shoes. ?You will be walking and standing a lot. ?I mean a whole hell of a lot, so make sure you and your?footwear?love each other, or else you will have lovely blisters to nurse while all of your friends do The Con.) ?This line was for our passes into The Con. ?This was an enjoyable 2 hour wait as we were sent to an assortment of hallways, stairwells, and a marina to get our coveted passes. ?We did manage to run into one of Melvin?s friends. ?I didn?t catch his name, but he looked really familiar.

After passes were procured, it was off to see what The Con had to offer. ?We all had panels we wanted to sit in on, but due to the insane-o line we just got through, we missed them. ?(Comic Con survival tip: Make sure you are okay with the fact that you will miss seeing the uber-sweet panel starring everyone from you favorite tv show/movie/video game because of long lines or room space. ?It happens. ?It is disappointing, but it happens. ?You have been warned.)

So instead of lamenting the missing of some panels, we decided to make our way to the exhibit floor to see what geekly sights The Con had for us. ?There were many. ?I will stop typing now and show you some of them. ?Enjoy.

Animal Rx: 11 Ways Pets Make You Healthy - Home - Cute Dogs, Cute ...

Original Article

Of course you can?t resist your golden retriever?s puppy-dog eyes or your tabby?s silly antics, but you?re getting much more from your?pet?than unconditional love and great pics for your Facebook wall.

Nearly two-thirds of American households include a pet ? and our animal companions are proving themselves adept at enhancing human health in increasingly diverse ways. From calming patients before medical procedures to motivating owners to?exercise, pets may be the best medicine we don?t even realize we?re taking.

Here, the notable ways your animal companions can improve your health.

Dogs Get You to Sweat

Your pooch may be the best fitness trainer around. Dog owners are 41 percent more likely to meet government recommendations for moderate exercise through walking (at least 150 minutes a week at a brisk pace), according to a 2008 Australian study. And strolling with a dog tends to perk up your normal pace, according to research on elderly dog walkers at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.

To turn strolls with your pooch into a?workout, aim to move at a pace of at least 3.5 miles per hour, five days a week for 30 minutes at a time, says Mathew Reeves, PhD, associate professor of epidemiology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. ?No stopping at every lamppost,? he says.

Pets Calm Your Blood Pressure

Simply being around your pet can help keep your?blood pressure?in check, research shows. In one study, pet owners experienced less of a blood pressure spike when they performed a stressful arithmetic task when their pet was in the room ? even though they didn?t touch or interact with them.

Exactly how pets lower blood pressure isn?t known, but animals are thought to offer the same kind of bulwark against stress as human pals or spouses, according to the researchers. And unlike social support from humans, they note, a pet?s love is non-judgmental.

Dogs Relieve Anxiety

Does petting your pooch after a long day soothe your frazzled nerves? Research presented at the 2011 meeting of the American Roentgen Ray Society, a radiology organization, shows their impact is even more powerful than you realize. Scientists found that spending 15 minutes with a dog before undergoing an MRI scan lowered patients??anxiety. Hanging out with a dog also decreased anxiety among kids who were nervous before seeing the dentist, separate research found.

Animals Melt Away Stress

Forget the bath and scented candle: A snuggle with your animal companion may be all you need to stamp out?stress. A survey of more than 1,500 Americans ages 14 to 83 found that owning a pet was associated with lower stress levels, according to research from the Delta Society, which promotes the use of service animals.

Interacting with an animal reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol in as few as five minutes, according to research from Sandra Barker, MD, a professor of psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. ?Whether that?s because of the distraction or the tactile quality, we don?t know yet,? she says.

Pets Limit Loneliness

Nine in 10 pet owners consider their animals to be members of the family, according to data from Petfinder.com. The site also found that more than half of owners report talking to them, and 80 percent of those who believe their pet responds through body language, facial expression, or sound. No wonder having an animal around has been found to make people feel more connected.

Interacting with a dog (even a robotic one) is associated with less loneliness, especially among the?elderly, separate studies by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs have found. The ?love? hormone oxytocin may also play a role: Levels of this brain chemical increased when dog owners gazed into their pups? eyes, pet, or played with them, according to a 2008 Japanese study.

Pets Reduce Allergy Risk

Conventional wisdom has it that animals and allergies don?t mix. And while it?s true that the 15 to 30 percent of Americans with allergies to cats or dogs should avoid them, exposure to animals early in life may actually protect children against?allergies?later.

Allergies and pre-asthmatic symptoms are less common in children who are around pets or farm animals in childhood, studies by the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., and Austrian scientists have found.

If you are allergic and just can?t resist keeping company with a pet, allergy shots can help. And while there?s no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic cat or dog, breeds that shed less may be less likely to make you sneeze, according to the American Kennel Club.

Dogs Can Detect Cancer

Afraid of needles??Prostate cancerscreening starts with a blood test of PSA, a protein made by the prostate gland (high levels indicate cancer). But thanks to dogs? well-honed sniffing abilities, a urine test could eventually be developed to check PSA levels. French scientists recently found that a specially trained Belgian Malinois shepherd (a breed prized for its explosive- and drug-detecting skills) could detect compounds associated with cancer in men's urine 91 percent of the time. Cancer cells produce these chemicals when they die, and they are odorless to humans but detectable by dogs, says Jean-Nicholas Cornu, MD, a urologic surgeon who co-authored the study.

But don?t expect Spot to greet you at the doctor?s office. Instead, a machine called an ?electronic nose? would do the work of the dog ? once scientists zero in on exactly which molecule the shepherd is detecting in men with cancer. ?For the moment, the pet does not replace the doctor, but one day we may be able to say the dog may discover new means to detect cancer,? Cornu says.

Cats Can Predict Death

An extraordinary?cat?named Oscar ? one of four feline residents of Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Providence, R.I. ? has predicted the deaths of 60 people there, says David Dosa, MD, an assistant professor of medicine and community health at Brown University. ?He?s not a people person, but he?ll suddenly sit on the bed and won?t move until the patient dies,? says Dosa, who published a book about the phenomenon called?Making Rounds with Oscar.

The 6-year-old kitty may be detecting ketones, sweet-smelling chemicals released by dying cells, Dosa says. ?There are times he?s the first to know, so he?s not just responding to the commotion around someone near death,? Dosa says.

While it?s possible that a pet could perform the same feat for a sick family member at home, Dosa advocates animal companionship for the comfort it can offer during an illness more so than during the dying process. ?I don?t think Oscar is unique in what he does,? Dosa adds. ?He?s just in a place where he can do it over and over again.?.

Pets Make Chronic Illness Manageable

Pet owners tend to believe that their pet enhances their health and quality of life. This can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, especially in the face of long-term health conditions such as?chronic fatigue syndrome. Pets provide distraction from personal worries over health and also tend to enforce a routine that helps their owners get up in the morning and keeps them moving through the day.

Animals Help You Stay Slim

Maybe it?s because they?keep you activeor because you sneak half of your meal to them under the table ? but whatever the reason, pet owners tend to have less of a problem with being overweight than people who do not have pets, which is good news for the two-thirds of Americans who are overweight or obese.

Pets Keep the Doctor Away

You can do more than just eat an apple a day. Several studies have shown that pet owners have less need to visit the doctor. They are more likely to report being in good health and less likely to schedule appointments for sleep problems, heart concerns, and?depression.
