Finding and Hiring the Right Roofing Contractor for the Job

The roof is one of the most important parts of your home, the first-line defense against the barrage of harsh external elements. At the same time, the extensive selection of colors and design makes the material a source of the greatest appeal, a primary contributor to a house's external beauty. Because it also covers the entire span of the house, making it one of the structure's largest materials, the roof is one of the most difficult parts to maintain, repair, and replace.

When you are faced with a difficult task, such as the improvement or fixing of your roof, there are individuals who can help you out. A roofing contractor coordinates with key building authorities and secures permits and other documents that should be acquired first before construction can be started. A roofing contractor also shows you where and how your money is being spent.

They should also be able to tell you the duration of the construction project, as well as the materials most suitable for a specific construction. As you work with a roofing contractor, it is important to be knowledgeable about the schedule of payments and the comprehensive formulation of project proposals and contracts, which should also include their insurance policies. You should determine whether a certain roofing contractor is credible and efficient (by checking out credentials) before hiring him or her. Remember to keep copies of all documents.

New Hampshire's irregular weather changes poses many problems for home owners because the long cold winters and rain can greatly damage their homes, specifically their roofs and siding. Choosing the wrong materials for a project can also lead to adverse outcomes, posing risks to residents within and around the vicinity, as well as compromising a family's short-term budget.

It is important to only hire roofing contractors New Hampshire house owners consider to be reliable and efficient because you're going to spend a considerable amount of money in order to have your roof replaced. Proper preparation and planning brings about satisfying results.

The features of home phones and phone providers: an overview

Life without phones has become an improbability. Phones have become a part and parcel of our lives. Though there are online chats and video conferencing available nowadays, it just does not equate to talking to a friend or family over the phone. Technology advancement has not left behind phones and the features available with phones have grown rapidly over the years. They were devices used just for military purposes initially. It has then become a home necessity over the years. There are so many call features available that even supports multiple conferencing. That is, more than two people can talk to each other at the same time. Missing out important calls when you are no longer at home is not a hindrance anymore, with voice mails and call forwarding features available with phones.

Phones with so many features should be supported by a good provider like the Charter Telephone.

It could be said that Features in phones and the connection to it are interconnected. Without a good connection, it is hard to take advantage of the features of the phone. Similarly, without a good, phone, a good connection cannot be put to the best of its use. With the advanced network technology, the sound quality of the connection would be crystal clear.

If you are looking for a home connection which is cost-effective with good quality and a connection without any hassle, then look for a provider available locally. Now, there are many providers who have their offices in cities spread across the country. An advantage with these providers is that they offer all the three home connections: Television, Internet and Phone in the form of a bundle. They provide all the three connections and the service would also be done by the same provider for all the three connections. You would not find any difference when you get all the three connections from the same provider except for the cost savings part.

The quality of the calls would be good as the internet and the phone connection is offered by the same provider. There would also be benefits like free long distance calling across US and unlimited local calling. These come as standard offers when you opt for a bundle. So the charge for the calls that you make, be it long distance or local is cut down by a great deal. You can see your bill reducing substantially when you opt for a deal or the phone connection as a part of the bundle. The quality of the connection would be equal for all the three connections as you would be getting it from the same provider. So it is a triple bonanza for you as you need not worry about each connection and there would not be any quality difference from one connection to the other.

There are also wireless home phone services available with the providers in the market. Reception would be a problem when switching over to a wireless home phone connection. But you can elevate this problem by making sure that you get reception for your house while you subscribe for the connection.

So technology has not only influenced the phones and its features but also the connections that can be subscribed for the phone. Now making phone calls using the online medium has started to pick up. I recently read an article which states that 24% of Americans have made calls using internet. So making calls through phones has become cheaper with calling through internet especially the overseas calls. Though these work cheaper than the traditional home phone service, nothing compares to the traditional method of making calls.

?I felt like I was living in 1939 in Nazi Germany,? said the mother, who asked not to be identified.

She was shocked when her 14-year-old son showed her his cell phone full of hateful messages.

?All together there were almost 18 hundred text messages that came to him over a period of weeks,? said the freshman?s mother.

The messages refer to the teen as a ?Jew fag?.

?I called Eldorado High School and they had me connected with a police officer within about 10 seconds who took care of it literally within 5 to 10 minutes,? the mother said.

The police report says the bully, who is not being named, confessed to ?text bombing? the victim. That?s a phone app that lets you send the same message to someone hundreds of times as an annoyance.

Phillies edge Cardinals with 18-hit attack

Associated Press Sports

updated 3:08 a.m. ET May 25, 2012

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Shane Victorino helped the Philadelphia Phillies make a statement.

Victorino and Freddy Galvis each drove in three runs, including Galvis' go-ahead single in the sixth inning, and the Philadelphia Philles beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-9 on Thursday night.

"We had the early lead, lost the lead early. This was a test of character," Victorino said. "What kind of team really are we? I think we can be a great team. It's just a matter of us going out there and doing it."

Placido Polanco, Carlos Ruiz and Ty Wigginton added three hits apiece for Philadelphia, which had a season-high 18.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his 13th straight save in a game that was delayed when a streaker ran onto the outfield grass in the top of the seventh inning.

"That was a really good game for us," Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said. "The hits that we got, that was definitely a confidence booster for us. We'll be OK."

With two outs and two on against Fernando Salas (0-3), Galvis drove in Victorino with a single and pinch-hitter Mike Fontenot singled to score Wigginton and make it 9-7.

St. Louis narrowed the margin to 9-8 with a two-out homer by David Freese. His 10th homer of the season went 463 feet and is the second longest homer in the stadium's seven-year history.

"I'd say they did a great job of fighting and staying with it, not quitting," St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said. "That's something we've seen pretty consistently with this team. You just hate to have to fight that much."

Wigginton homered in the eighth to add an insurance run that proved valuable when Skip Schumaker hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning.

A three-run fifth by St. Louis chased Philadelphia starter Joe Blanton and tied it at 7. Matt Holliday led off the fifth with his 10th homer. Raul Valdes (1-0) got two outs to end the inning.

Carlos Beltran, who had three hits, doubled but was thrown out at third on a ball hit in the hole by Freese. Two pitches later, Yadier Molina, who had four hits, crushed the ball out to deep center.

Blanton, who gave up four homers in his last start, gave up two in 4 1-3 innings. He allowed 10 hits.

The Phillies led 6-0 after two innings against St. Louis starter Jake Westbrook.

Victorino hit into a fielder's choice to bring home a run, Wigginton singled up the middle to score Hunter Pence and Galvis hit a two-run single to make it 4-0.

"I try to be more relaxed up there," Galvis said. "I try to protect the whole home plate. It was the best game I've ever played, you know."

Victorino hit a two-out, two-run double in the second inning.

St. Louis fought back with a four-run third inning against Blanton. Westbrook led off with a single and scored on a groundout. Beltran hit an RBI single and Freese then doubled to drive in Beltran and later scored on a single by Molina.

It was Westbrook's shortest outing of the season. He allowed eight hits and three walks.

The streaker, identified as 22-year-old Collin Grundstrom of Jefferson City, Mo., entered the field from the lower-level seats down the right-field line and ran into left-center with Busch Stadium security and St. Louis police officers giving chase.

They caught up with him in left field and forced him to the ground, retrieving towels from the Phillies' bullpen to cover him up.

Grundstrom told police he ran onto the field because he lost a bet. He was charged with violating two city ordinances: lewd and lascivious behavior and being a spectator on the field.

St. Louis third baseman David Freese looked on the bright side of the delay.

"He was naked. He's not carrying much," Freese said. "That relaxes that aspect of the drama. I guess naked's better. I don't know. Less to worry about."

NOTES: St. Louis' Allen Craig (left hamstring) took batting practice and fielded grounders for the first time since he went on the disabled list May 17. ... Cardinals 1B Lance Berkman's surgery on his injured right knee, originally scheduled for Thursday, was postponed until Friday due to a conflict in his surgeon's schedule in Houston. ... Jimmy Rollins rejoined the Phillies and hit leadoff. Rollins missed the last three games as his wife, Johari, gave birth to the couple's first child Sunday. C Erik Kratz was optioned to make room on the roster.

Obama snubs Pakistan head over supply routes

(AP) ? In an unmistakable snub, President Barack Obama left Pakistan off a list of nations he thanked Monday for help getting war supplies into Afghanistan.

The omission speaks to the prolonged slump in U.S. relations with Pakistan that clouded a NATO summit where nations were eyeing the exits in Afghanistan.

Tensions that Obama readily acknowledged raise questions about whether Pakistan will help or hurt the goal of a stable Afghanistan. Continued mistrust between the United States and Pakistan also threaten cooperation to eliminate al-Qaida sanctuaries and could undermine U.S. confidence in the security of Pakistan's growing nuclear arsenal.

"We need to work through some of the tensions that have inevitably arisen after 10 years of our military presence in that region," Obama said later. "I don't want to paper over real challenges there."

Pakistan is not a NATO member but was invited to the summit Sunday and Monday because of its influence in next-door Afghanistan and its role until last year as the major supply route to landlocked NATO forces there. Pakistan closed those routes after a U.S. attack on the Pakistani side of the border killed 24 Pakistani soldiers in November.

The last-minute invitation from NATO to join the Chicago talks was a sign of hope that the rift had healed.

But it hasn't. And Obama's dealings with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari made that clear on Monday.

Zardari came to Obama's home town expecting a separate meeting with the U.S. leader like the one accorded to Afghan President Hamid Karzai. But without a final deal to reopen the supply lines, no such meeting was to occur.

Obama, along with Karzai, did speak briefly with Zardari on the sidelines of a large group meeting Monday. Karzai dismissed the encounter in an interview with CNN as a "three-way photograph taking...just a photo opportunity."

That was after Zardari had to sit by as Obama opened Monday's session with public thanks only to the nations north of Afghanistan who allowed expanded supply shipments to transit their territory to compensate for the closed Pakistani border gates.

"I want to welcome the presence of President Karzai, as well as officials from central Asia and Russia ? nations that have an important perspective and that continue to provide critical transit for ISAF supplies," Obama said, referring to the International Security Assistance Force that is fighting the war.

Pakistani officials played down the snub.

"The supply route on Pakistan's side has been suspended for the last six months," Zardari's spokesman Farhatullah Babar told reporters. "There was really no expectation from our side that the U.S. president would appreciate and admire the suspension of the NATO supply lines."

The border crossing dispute is stuck over how much the U.S. will pay Pakistan to allow trucks to transit its territory. Before the airstrike, the U.S. paid about $250 per truck. Now, two U.S. officials said, Pakistan wants $5,000 a truck and an apology for the deaths in the airstrike. The Obama administration has said it was willing to pay as much as $500 per vehicle and has expressed condolences and regret, but no apology. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the negotiations were being conducted in private.

The prospects for reaching a deal were unclear, even as the stakes grow larger.

Babar said the government had asked negotiators to expedite an agreement, but that "no timeline can be given."

Obama told reporters at the close of the summit that he knew beforehand that there would be no deal on the supply routes now.

"President Zardari shared with me his belief that these issues can get worked through," Obama said. "We're actually making diligent progress on it."

Zardari also met with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday and made a beeline across a meeting hall to grasp her hand again on Monday morning. The State Department said Clinton and Zardari "discussed the importance of reopening the NATO supply lines," and of cooperating to fight terrorist threats.

The U.S. and Pakistan have a history of troubled relations that started well before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The road has grown only rockier since then. Despite giving Pakistan billions of dollars in aid over the past decade, anti-Americanism is widespread in Pakistan. And after years of sometimes meaningful cooperation in hunting down al-Qaida figures, Pakistan is still seen by many U.S. officials as double-dealing and unreliable.

The transit route issue was a distraction and an embarrassment for the United States at the summit, and Obama's cool arm's length treatment of Zardari made it look even worse for the Pakistani president.

"Pakistan has to be part of the solution in Afghanistan, and it is in our national interests that to see a Pakistan that is democratic, that is prosperous and that is stable," Obama said.

The quarrel over supply routes is intertwined with several other disputes, including Pakistan's opposition to U.S. drone strikes against terrorist targets inside its borders.

In addition to closing the border crossings in response to the November attack, Pakistan ordered the U.S. to vacate Shamsi air base, which the U.S. was using to launch drone strikes at al-Qaida and Taliban militants.

The top allied commander in Afghanistan, Marine Gen. John Allen, has tried to cast the supply route problem in the best possible light, while acknowledging that he'd like to see the border crossings reopened as soon as possible. Allen said Sunday that by some measure, war stocks are higher now than when the crossings were closed.

That is thanks to an increased ? and much more costly ? use of alternative routes, including a network of northern routes that connect Baltic and Caspian Sea ports with Afghanistan through Russia and Central Asia and the Caucasus. And they combine sea, rail and truck transport and are more costly than crossing Pakistan by land.

U.S. officials have offered a range of estimates on how much the closing of the Pakistani land routes have added to the overall supply costs, but it apparently is at least two or three times more expensive to move supplies by air and via the northern route.

To underline the value of those alternative supply routes from the north, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta met Monday in Chicago with his counterparts from the central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. He expressed his "deep appreciation for their support" of the northern supply route, Pentagon press secretary George Little said.

At least as troublesome as being forced to use alternative supply routes into Afghanistan is the issue of how to get war materiel out of the country as Allen begins the withdrawal of thousands of U.S. troops this summer. That's because the withdrawal includes shipment of vehicles and other equipment that would be costly and time consuming to remove by air.

The NATO alliance needs Pakistan's cooperation to ensure Afghanistan's long-term stability and security, NATO's top officer told reporters. That was a mild way of saying that Pakistan can play the spoiler at will and holds cards the fighting force does not. Pakistan shares history, culture and language with Afghanistan's restive southern swath, and maintains support for Taliban-led insurgents who cross the border to kill U.S. and NATO forces.

Beyond Facebook: A look at social network history - Jamaica News ...

NEW YORK (AP) ? Facebook may have made social networking a worldwide cultural phenomenon, but it wasn't the first Internet company to connect people online. And it won't be the last. Here's a look at how social networking has evolved. Some companies have come and gone. Some are mere shells of their former selves. And others show promise, even as Facebook dominates the social Web.? GeocitiesLaunched in 1994, Geocities offered a way for people to build websites and tell the world about themselves with postings and photos. Users could also buy and sell things through online stores. Pages built to feature different subjects formed virtual communities. Yahoo bought it in 1999, at the height of the dot-com boom, for about US$3 billion and shut it down a decade later. Geocities was among the early services that let people form online communities. Yahoo shut down GeoCities in 2009.? Classmates.comThe website created to connect former schoolmates with one another launched in 1995, possibly before its time. It filed to go public in 2007 when it had about 50 million users, but withdrew the IPO that December, citing "market conditions." Classmates.com still exists today, but is overshadowed by Facebook. It's owned by United Online Inc., which is also home to online florists such as FTD and Interflora.? SixDegreesStarted by Andrew Weinreich in 1997, SixDegrees was "the first online business that attempted to identify and map a set of real relationships between real people using their real names," writes author David Kirkpatrick in "The Facebook Effect." Though it attracted millions of users, the site failed to catch on and shut down in 2000. Weinreich later told Kirkpatrick that "We were early. Timing is everything."? LiveJournalLaunched in 1999, LiveJournal offered ? and still offers ? a rudimentary form of social networking. Users write online journals and share them with friends or the general public. The site doesn't require people to use their real names, and with short status update snippets more popular today, seems more akin to blogging than to social networking. It's owned by Moscow-based SUP Media and remains popular in Russia.? FriendsterLaunched by Jonathan Abrams in 2002, Friendster was many people's first introduction to a social network. It showed a lot of promise, and by the fall of 2003 had nearly 2 million users and deep-pocketed investors such as Peter Thiel, who later became one of the first people to invest in Facebook. "By enabling people to connect seamlessly in a global network of social relationships, Friendster stands at the very core of what the Internet is all about," Thiel told The Associated Press in 2003. The site faded as MySpace and then Facebook rose. Malaysian tycoon Vincent Tan bought the site in 2009 for an undisclosed sum. Today, Friendster operates as an online gaming platform.? Tribe.netFounded in 2003 by Mark Pincus, now the CEO of online game company Zynga Inc., and two other entrepreneurs, Tribe was created to let people form online communities around shared interests. Today, it's used largely by aficionados of alternative lifestyles, with groups ranging from a vegetarian and vegan recipe exchange to "beauty secrets for divas."? MySpaceLaunched in 2003 by entrepreneurs Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson, who was every MySpace user's first friend. It became a popular Internet destination and an important way for little-known musicians to market themselves and interact with their fans. News Corp. bought it for US$580 million in 2005 when it was still a fast-rising Internet darling. But MySpace lost its footing over the years, as the fun of customizing one's profile began to bore its users and the site's heavy use of banner advertisements slowed the speed at which pages loaded. It peaked in 2008 with some 76 million U.S. visitors, but people were already migrating to Facebook. News Corp. sold the site to online ad network operator Specific Media last year for US$35 million.? LinkedIn Corp. The professional social network was launched by Reid Hoffman, one of Facebook's early investors, in 2003. While Facebook, which got its start a year later, was meant as a place to connect with friends and family, LinkedIn is strictly business. The company went public in May 2011, the first of the latest crop of Internet companies to do so. As of March 31, LinkedIn had 161 million users. Its profit more than doubled in the first three months of the year, helped by revenue from the fees that it charges companies and recruiters to get broad access to its site.? Twitter Inc.Launched in 2006, Twitter lets its users express themselves in short messages ? tweets ? of 140 characters or less. It's a cascade of information, and unlike Facebook's complicated privacy controls, there are just two choices: Public or restricted to pre-approved followers. Celebrities, politicians and companies use Twitter to keep in touch with fans, constituents and consumers. It has more than 100 million users.? Google PlusIt wasn't Google Inc.'s first foray into social networking, but it was the search company's most ambitious try, designed to go head-to-head with Facebook when it launched in 2011. Although it has some 170 million users, including some Facebook holdouts, Google Plus has, so far, failed to draw a substantial number of people away from Facebook. Google uses the service to plug social elements into search and its other products.? Pinterest, Instagram and the futureFacebook's success has spurred a new class of social networks that are smaller and more specifically focused. Instagram, which Facebook plans to buy for US$1 billion this year, exists only on mobile devices and only to share photos. Nextdoor.com, which launched last year, aims to collect people who are physical neighbors through a closed social network. Path, founded by ex-Facebook employee Dave Morin, dubs itself a "personal network," letting its users share photos, videos and updates with a smaller group of friends than on Facebook. Pinterest, another photo-heavy site, is meant for sharing images. Users often collect images to help inspire ideas for projects, like a garden, or events, such as a wedding.

Atlantic storm could start hurricane season early

A swirling mass of thunderstorms off the South Carolina coast has a 50-percent chance of developing into a tropical depression or a tropical storm and could bring an early start to the Atlantic hurricane season, forecasters said on Saturday.

The weather disturbance was in the Atlantic Ocean about 120 miles southeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

"Showers and thunderstorms have increased near the circulation center. Additional development of this system is possible and it could become a tropical depression or tropical storm as it moves slowly southward or westward over the next day or so," they said.

A southerly course would take it over the Bahamas while a westerly track would take it ashore over North and South Carolina. Neither course would pose an immediate threat to U.S. oil and gas operations clustered in the Gulf of Mexico.

If its swirling winds reach 39 miles per hour, it would become Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season.

The season officially runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, but storms outside that time frame are not uncommon.

Quebec passes law in effort to end daily protests

Protesters make their way through the hall of a Montreal university to disrupt classes Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Montreal. Carrying a list of scheduled classes, about 100 hard-core protesters marched through pavilions at the Universite du Quebec a Montreal. The student unrest has lasted 14 weeks. Only one-third of Quebec students are actually on declared strikes, but the conflict has created considerable social disorder. (AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Paul Chiasson)

Police on horseback charge into a crowd of students protesting against tuition hikes in Montreal, Tuesday, May 15, 2012. A recent court injunction ordered the reopening of College Lionel-Groulx near Montreal. After several days of student pickets, which included some parents and teachers who wanted to support the declared strikers, riot police used chemical irritants to clear a path into the school today. Some students, along with faculty, eventually entered. Hours later, after staff meetings, the college issued a statement: Lionel-Groulx will remain closed for two more days(AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Ryan Remiorz)

Quebec Provincial Police use tear gas to disperse students protesting against tuition hikes at the Lionel Groulx college Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in Ste. Therese, Quebec, Canada. About one-third of post-secondary students in Quebec are boycotting classes in a protest against tuition hikes that has lasted more than three months. What started as a battle over a $325-a-year fee hike appears to have morphed into a broader struggle over the role of the state, the legitimacy of protest tactics, and the boundaries of authority. (AP) ? Quebec's provincial government passed an emergency law Friday restricting demonstrations and shutting some universities as the government seeks to end three months of protests against tuition hikes.?Outraged students reacted by calling it an act of war.

Among the controversial provisions of the law, which passed 68-48, is a requirement that police be informed eight hours before a protest and told the route of any demonstration that includes 50 or more people. Critics called that an affront to civil rights.

Hours after the vote thousands of protesters marched in downtown Montreal to?condemn the legislation, which students and supporters say limits their ability to demonstrate their disapproval of the fee hikes.

"They pulled the plug instead of trying to develop something constructive through talks, " said participant Felix Siry, 22. "I think this will just make things worse."

Police officers in riot gear, and others on horseback watched as the loud and energetic crowd made its way downtown, chanting "No special law will break us!"

A number of molotov cocktails were tossed causing police to declare the demonstration illegal. Police used pepper spray and one man was arrested after the crowd got too close to cops. Some people threw objects at a small group of helmeted cops were forced to retreat. The angry crowd followed the retreating cops who then charged back firing tear gas.

The crowd was much larger than the hundreds who gathered Thursday night as the government introduced the bill to quell the most sustained student protests in Canadian history. On Wednesday, protesters smashed windows and more than 120 people were arrested. Both police and protesters were injured.

? Earlier Friday, the city of Montreal passed an ordinance restricting protesters from wearing masks during demonstrations, levying fines between $500 and $3,000. The city also said demonstrators will have to provide details of their itineraries beforehand.

? Officials have said they believe protesters wearing masks have been causing the most trouble. A similar bylaw was under consideration in Quebec City.

"Our cities can no longer become targets," Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay said. "It's time to reclaim our streets, our neighborhoods, our cities."? Rights groups also have protested that bylaw, calling it a restriction on their democratic right to demonstrate.

Quebec Premier Jean Charest said the provincial legislation would not roll back the tuition hikes of $254 per year over seven years. Rather, it would temporarily halt the spring semester at schools paralyzed by walkouts and push up the summer holidays. Classes would resume earlier in August.

The law imposes harsh fines on protesters who block students from attending classes.?

Proposed fines range from $1,000 to $5,000 for a student, $7,000 to $35,000 for a student leader and between $25,000 and $125,000 for unions or student federations if someone is prevented from entering an educational institution.

The Quebec Bar Association said it had serious concerns about the law and said the scale of the restraints on fundamental freedom wasn't justified.

Opposition Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois called Friday "one of the darkest days of Quebec democracy," and said Charest should hold elections because of the unpopularity of the law.

Martine Desjardins, one student leader, blamed the government for "letting the conflict deteriorate" and said it was seeking to "drown the conflict in the tribunals."

Student leader Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois called the law the "murder of the right to demonstrate."??

He said his group would challenge the law before the courts and called on protesters to take part in a march in great numbers next Tuesday, which will mark the 100th day of protests.

But embattled Education Minister Michelle Courchesne said before the vote that despite the legislation, talks would go on and an agreement could still be reached with the students.

"Even if there is a special legislation tonight, tomorrow, there can still be an agreement after the law," she said.

She stressed that the law doesn't prevent students from protesting, and said she remained open to a dialogue with students.

Some of the loudest cheers early on Friday were reserved for one man who stood on a garbage can and burned what looked like a copy of the government bill.

The conflict has caused considerable social upheaval in the French-speaking province known for having more contentious protests than elsewhere in Canada ? and the country's the lowest tuition rates.

The U.S. consulate in Montreal last month warned visitors and U.S. expatriates to be wary of demonstrations.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ? It was born in a Harvard dorm, spreading like wildfire through colleges across the country. Now, after its IPO, Facebook is worth $104 billion.

For Wall Street deal-makers trading shares of FB (the social network?s ticker symbol) this morning, the price was set at $38-a-share, but was expected to sky-rocket from there.

It would be a good idea to be extremely cautious with this investment.

READ: Facebook prices IPO at $38 per share

Many industry experts believe Facebook will be just as popular as or even more popular than the Google IPO as far as Wall Street is concerned. Sheyna Steiner, an investigative reporter for BankRate.com, says there?s a split with investors on who will buy and who will wait.

?The Motley Fool did a survey asking everyone if investors are going to buy Facebook and it was mostly novice investors who said they were very interested in buying shares. People who have a lot of experience investing said that they would probably sit it out. And that was like two people out of 10 who are very experienced versus twice that for novice investors.?

Steiner says just because you like the website, it?s no reason to buy into the IPO.

?A lot of critics have said that Facebook might not be worth what it?s currently valued at.? And you really have to do your homework.? And look at how it?s valued today versus the earnings for the past year and decide if you think they are going to live up to their sales pitch or if they?re not.? It really does take homework; not whether you like the website or not.?

Steiner warns the volatility of IPO?s may be unexpected by the novice investor. Critics contend the company is overvalued. You?d be advised to read the prospectus carefully.
